Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry faced charges of official misconduct and interfering with a law enforcement officer, but prosecutors would not say what led to the charges.
The court document released Monday indicates that in May 2012, a confidential information told authorities that he saw a Franklin County attorney buy meth from one of his associates.
Authorities claim the county attorney and Curry were intimately involved with one another at the time, although they say Curry denied it when questioned about it. They say Curry tipped off the woman that she was a suspect, unlawfully providing confidential information to her.
Curry has since resigned his position and the woman no longer has her job with Franklin County.
The U.S. Attorney’s office told FOX 4 that the county employee accused of buying meth was never part of an investigation. She currently works in the Johnson County, Kan., district attorney’s office.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said his office never received any information related to the allegations against her from the Shawnee County or Franklin County attorney’s offices, nor from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
The document released on Monday did not reveal the reason for the charges against the deputy, who was arrested at the same time as Curry.
