KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Moms, daughters and wives are packing heat. More women are applying for gun permits.
Dozens of women are taking advantage of ladies night at one gun range. That means women shoot for free. The FBI stats show the number of applications for conceal and carry permits rose tremendously in 2011. Experts feel many of the applications are for women.
Connie Cahill falls into that category. She got her conceal and carry permit recently. She goes to the range every Wednesday. She brings her whole family including her husband, son and three daughters who are also learning to shoot.
The Cahills preach gun safety to their kids and want them to understand they can be dangerous. They also want them to know how to handle a gun. They say going to the shooting range is effective, educational and fun.
“Going bowling is so much more expensive since ladies shoot free and they are members here,” said gun owner Connie Cahill. “People here are wonderful and really help out a lot and teach the kids and making them read safety rules and things like that.”
Cahill’s daughters say they were a little scared and intimidated at first, but the more they practice, the more they like it. The Cahills never want to use a gun outside the range, but feel better prepared if a situation comes up.
