ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – It might sound like a joke, but the St. Joseph School District said what a student allegedly did to a few teachers is no laughing matter.
Administrative assistant to the superintendent, Steve Huff, said the teen urinated in a coffee pot at Central High School.
The student isn’t being identified because he’s a minor, just 16 years old. But the word is out at the high school.
“It seems like new stuff is just happening everyday. It’s just terrible like that, and I just will never understand it,” Josh Shorba, a Central High School student, said.
Huff said, “Obviously it’s a repulsive act and it’s disgusting.”
Huff said two teachers reported on March 15, the coffee pot in a storage closet tasted like cleaner. Huff said after difficulty sifting through surveillance video, getting new technology and then a spring break, a staff member saw something suspicious in the video on April 3.
“There was about two-and-a-half seconds of tape of the student coming out of the storage room,” Huff said.
Huff said the student was interviewed by the school’s principal and resource officer. He said they found out the chemical taste was actually the student’s urine.
The Buchanan County Juvenile Office’s has charged the teen with third degree assault.
The district said this serves as a reminder, you can never be too careful.
“In this particular case as I understand it, the coffee pot was in a room that was used by a couple of teachers. There was a lock on the door but it wasn’t being utilized, so if you’ve got a lock, lock it up,” Huff said.
Students like Carter Hernandez said their tight-knit school has to move on from this.
“I mean it’s pretty screwed up but than again, things happen we just have to get through them,” Hernandez said.
The juvenile office said the student is scheduled to appear in court on April 30. Linda Meyer, with the office, said the teen is not in custody and that is based on his history. She said she could not comment any more on that portion.
The district said the teen is still a student in the district.
