Ariel Castro CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man accused of keeping three women captive in his Cleveland house for years was accused of domestic violence against his wife in 2005, court documents filed in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, show.

In the documents filed August 29, 2005, the wife alleges that Ariel Castro, 52, broke her nose twice, and two of her ribs; knocked out one of her teeth; dislocated her shoulders; and left her with a blood clot on the brain.

The document also alleges Castro threatened to kill her and her daughter three to four times that year. A protection order was granted that day, but a magistrate dissolved it on November 23, 2005, and ruled that the wife’s petition for a domestic violence civil protection order be dismissed without prejudice.

Authorities scouring Castro’s home said they found ropes and chains, apparently used to restrain the three women, the city’s police chief said Wednesday.

“We have confirmation that they were bound, and there (were) chains and ropes in the home,” Chief Michael McGrath told NBC’s “Today.”

Authorities expect to file charges Wednesday against Castro and his two brothers, Pedro Castro, 54, and Onil Castro, 50.
