JOPLIN, Mo. — The City of Joplin, Mo. has deployed a team of public safety workers to help out in the wake of the storm disaster in Moore, Okla., according to the Joplin Globe.

More than a dozen workers, including police officers and firefighters, have already arrived on the scene in the Oklahoma town.

‘We remember the amount of assistance that we received following the tornado two years ago, and we want to help others as they helped us,” Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr said in a statement released Monday.  “We know too well what their community is facing, and we feel an obligation to serve them as they have served us.’

The team will report to Joplin administrators on what other help could be sent as the needs develop in Moore, the newspaper reported.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Oklahoma, and we will provide assistance following this destructive storm,” Rohr said.

Wednesday, May 22, is the two-year anniversary of the EF-5 tornado that cut a swath of destruction through Joplin, killing 158 people.
