KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals selected SS/3B Hunter Dozier from Stephen F. Austin University with the eighth pick in the 2013 MLB draft.  Dozier is 21 years old and originally from Denton, Texas. He played shortstop for the Lumberjacks and measures out at 6’4, 220 lbs.

According to his biography he was the first shortstop in Stephen F. Austin history to be named first-team All-Southland Conference when he started 59 games as a sophomore. He appeared in 55 games for the Lumberjacks as a junior, finishing with a .396 average with 17 home runs and 52 RBI. He set single-season school records with 24 multi-hit games and 22 doubles as a junior.

The Royals will be back to work quickly after the first round concludes. They hold the first pick in ‘Competitive Balance Round A’ which amounts to the 34th overall pick. They also hold the 46th and 82nd overall picks through the first three rounds.
