KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The sound of gunshots had people calling police overnight in one Kansas City, Kansas neighborhood.  But for people living near Eighth and Lafayette Avenue, the sound of gunshots are not that uncommon.

It all started Friday night.

“I heard about five gunshots,” said Jesuson Treece.

With numerous people reporting gunfire, no one, including neighbors and police, found anything.

The gunfire was so alarming that one man decided to do some investigating on his own.

“I came outside and saw a black male waking between the houses,” Treece said.

But it was not until Saturday morning that a neighbor decided to follow up on a hunch.

“I saw a show laying in the roadway and decided to walk behind the house.  When I walked into the back of the yard,  I saw a black male laying down on the ground.  I knew he was dead,” Treece told FOX 4 News.

For others living in the area, they say more needs to be done and wish police or even neighbors would have kept looking for a possible victim.

“We could have maybe saved that young mans life,” said Consuela Edwards, one of the residents of the neighborhood.

And now residents are hoping something will be done to stop the violence.

“I live in this neighborhood, grew up in this neigbhorhood, grew up in this area and we have kids that see these things,” Edwards said.

For far, police have not released the name of the victim, if you have any information about this crime, please call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
