KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the second time in two months, the director of the George Washington Carver Development Center said thieves stole the center’s air conditioning units.

Lynne Beard said she had to close the center this week, because it was too hot.

Nordyne Distributing heard about the theft and donated five air conditioning units.  Benchmark Property Management volunteered its maintenance crew to install the units.

“When we faced adversity they stepped right in and helped us out and now we’ll be back and running on Monday with cool air and everything,” Beard said.

The maintenance crew said they’re going to put the a-c units in a cage.  They’ll cement them into a concrete base to prevent them from being stolen again.
