JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon has signed a law that encourages school to teach gun safety to first graders.
The Eddie the Eagle Gun Safe Program is a National Rifle Association sponsored course, but will not be required in Missouri schools. However, by putting it in state law, the Show-Me State is providing one of the stronger state endorsements to the program.
The program includes a video of an eagle character that teaches children if they see a gun — don’t touch — leave and tell an adult.
