KANSAS CITY, Mo. — School starts in less than two weeks for many districts, which means it’s time to stock up on school supplies–and this weekend in Missouri, all those supplies will be tax free.

Depending where you live in Missouri, there’s no state, county or city sales tax. This applies to: clothing costing $100 or less, school supplies $50 or less, computer software under $350 dollars or less and computers that cost less than $3,500.

Marsha Parks has two sons in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District and says the tax-free weekend will help tremendously.

“We have to buy school clothes, we have to get notebooks and everything,” she said. “It’s just really expensive. most of the time i spend like $400 to $500.”

Dan Fogleman, the spokesperson for Walmart, calls this one of their busiest weekends of the year. Understandably so, as person can save a little more than $8 in tax for every $100 spent on school supplies.

“We know this is going to be a busy day. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see a lot of Kansas license plates in a Missouri parking lot as people come across the border to take advantage of that,” he said.

“It’s awesome. I really appreciate it because it really will save me a while lot this weekend,” said Parks.

The event begins Friday at midnight and will run though Sunday.
