OLATHE, Kan. — Congratulations to Vanya Shivashankar, a fifth-grader at Regency Place Elementary in Olathe, who is headed to the national spelling bee in Washington D.C.

Shivashankar won the Olathe district’s spelling bee for the second time! The winning word was “cloche”. Do you know what “cloche” is? One hint: It’s a noun.

Shivashankar competed against more than 40 other students in the district and will go on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee the week of May 27 in Washington D.C.

In 2009, Vanya’s sister, Kayia won the national title as an eighth grader.
