KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A long list of complaints resulted in the public censure of a Kansas City, Kan. Unified Government Commissioner. Among the complaints, a confrontation between commissioner Tarence Maddox and a clerk at LEGOLAND in Crown Center last month.

The city’s ethics commission said it was one of several cases in which Maddox used his office in an effort to get special treatment. Maddox was ordered to re-take the city’s ethics training class, something he referred to as ‘a joke’ when initially confronted with the complaints against him. He now has 60 days to attend the course.

As a result of the censure, Maddox is prohibited from using his name or title with the Unified Government for private purposes in the future. He is also prohibited from representing himself as a UG Commissioner on his private vehicle and may not use the UG’s legal department for personal assistance.
