LEAWOOD, Kan. — They say necessity is the mother of invention. A local businessman says he’s invented something that he thinks lots of people need: a unique way to hide things you may want to keep private or something that could keep you safe like a gun or mace.
Bob Cutler runs a company in the metro called C3, known as the brains behind many national companies kids’ and families marketing campaigns. But his latest venture is a little different and could soon be seen on TV or even on Walmart store shelves.
Cutler said the idea was so simple, he couldn’t believe no one else had thought of it first: a hidden compartment in a pillow that is easy to get in and out of for quick access in case of an emergency. He calls it the Privacy Pillow.
“The safety seal holds everything there no matter what you put in it. It’s easy to get in to, slip your hand in there and who would know.” he said.
He said it can stow away TV remotes, eyeglasses, or even something with a little more …. bang. He said the pillow is the perfect hiding place for a gun or mace, kept next to your bed in case of an emergency.
“No one wants to be in that situation, but it’s nice to know there’s a product that could give you a higher probability of success protecting you and your family,” he said.
At the gun shows he markets it as the Patriot Pillow and said it’s done very well. At one recent gun show, he sold out of the pillows in one day. Right now he’s selling the pillows online, but by the end of the month, he’ll find out whether he’s a finalist to get his product stocked on Walmart’s store shelves. He’s competing against 300 other inventions.
“It’s a lot so you have to be pretty good,” he said.
And you might even see him on an infomercial soon. He’s shooting that next week.
“No, I will not be the face of the Privacy Pillow, it will be an attractive woman on TV,” he said laughing.
But wait… there’s more.
Cutler said the number one question he always gets is: Can you sleep on it? He figures most people will use it as a decorative pillow, but he said it’s actually pretty comfortable too.
“I have it in my bed and I’ve slept on it inadvertently and you don’t feel anything inside,” he said.
