BLUE SPRINGS , Mo. — The Jackson County, Missouri Sheriff’s Deparment said they received a call just after midnight Friday about a careless driver.  Apparently the driver took a turn to fast on Highway 50 near Milton Thompson Road, hit a mailbox made of stone blocks and overturned.  The car caught fire.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the remains of two people inside the car.  They determined the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it overturned.

Neighbors along Milton Thompson Road said there is a fairly sharp bend in the road and this isn’t the first time someone has died in an accident there.

“People driving southbound are usually intoxicated and at a high rate of speed lose control on that curb.  They go back and forth across that road and they end up somewhere in the ditch here,” said Larry Keisker.

The victims names have not yet been released by the sheriff’s department.
