GRANDVIEW, Mo. — Kansas City, Mo., police are still searching for the person responsible in the death of 48-year-old Bobby Hays. Hays, police say, was killed when he was hit by a car on the exit ramp from I-49 to 155th Street in Grandview early Saturday morning. A day after a memorial service was held for Hays, his friends stood feet away from he was killed holding signs asking people to come forward with information.

Tim Gilio says he grew up with Hays. They went to school and worked together. Gilio says he doesn’t understand why so many people passed by while Hays laid in the road.

“There was a bunch of people who passed right after he was lying on the ground dead,” said Gilio. “I can’t comprehend why/how someone could leave.”

Hays was the father of a daughter, Ivy Christman, and two grandchildren. Christman says her dad was an avid skateboarder and a former football standout in high school.

“He was real proud to see his grandson playing football. He’s a lineman, taking his same footsteps,” said Christman.

Christman says her six-year-old son worshiped his grandpa.

“My son would say that he has the best grandpa in the world. They were just two peas in a freaking pod,” she said.

Gilio says Hays was at his house earlier and was walking to another friend’s house when he was hit and killed. Hays’ daughter says her dad didn’t have a car and walked everywhere.

“If you have driven in Grandview, you’ve probably seen him walking,” said Christman.

Kansas City, Mo., police say they are looking for a light colored, small to midsize car that should have damage to the front and possibly to the windshield.
