KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In Brookside, dozens of dogs took over for Wayside Waifs’ 23rd Annual Strut With Your Mutt race and walk.
Wayside waifs had a goal to raise 150 thousand dollars this year. It says that money helps it care for 6,500 abandoned, abused and homeless pets every year.
Marla Bixler spent the morning strutting with her Maltese, Oliver. She says he’s what inspires her to participate every year.
“It’s a gorgeous day and we like seeing all the people with all the dogs and it’s for a good cause. We donate to them and they do wonderful things for animals and this is our third year,” said Bixler.
Wayside Waifs was well on its way to reaching the 150 thousand dollar goal before race time even began. At that point, already 130 thousand dollars had been brought in.
