KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman filed an involuntary manslaughter charge against a teenager in connection to the fatal crash that killed Casey Knight on October 7. The 14-year-old suspect was originally charged with theft but now also faces the manslaughter charge in addition to an aggravated battery charge.
The crash occurred in the vicinity of 12th Street and Dodson in Kansas City, Kan. and a resident’s surveillance video showed a group of teenagers leaving the scene. Neighbors said it looked like the crash happened because the driver made a quick turn to avoid a road that was blocked off.
Knight and another girl were ejected from the vehicle and Knight was found dead at the scene. The teenager charged is being held in juvenile detention and will be arraigned on January 8, 2014.
