ATCHISON, Kan. — Surviving near death experiences doesn’t always mean a happy ending. Allan Earhard, 57, survived a brutal stabbing five and a half years ago. He says the stabbing caused him to lose his house in January.
On June 17, 2006, Earhard, working as a delivery man, was attacked outside of an auto parts store in Atchison, Kan. Police say Marcus Kelly wanted to rob his victim so he stabbed him repeatedly.
“He stabbed many, many times perhaps as many as 20 times in the lungs, in the back, in the arms, in the fingers in the face, in the ear, in the chin,” Earhard said.
Police chief Mike Wilson remembers the victim well. He remembers how close he was to losing his life.
“He came within seconds,” Chief Wilson said.
Earhard was evicted from his home in January.
“They had me moved out in about four hours,” he said. “I just moved everything to the lawn and that was it.”
His belongings are spread between three different neighbors. Most of his personal items are in a shed. His mortgage was actually paid off. His problem was he couldn’t afford the property taxes, which he says are now more than $11,000 in arrears.
Earhard says he is not without faith. The grace of God may have helped him pull through at the hospital, but living never got easier.
