SALINE COUNTY, Mo. — Four firefighters and one trooper were injured as they worked at the scene of a traffic accident around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Sgt. Collin Stosberg of the Missouri Highway Patrol, one trooper with his department along with four Marshall, Mo. firefighters were all injured while conducting an investigation on a traffic accident at the 77 mile maker of I-70 eastbound in Saline County, Mo.
Sgt. Stosberg said at about 4:00 p.m. a vehicle lost control while traveling too fast going westbound on I-70. The vehicle went over the median and struck the four firefighters who were standing by the side of the highway investigating the existing accident.
The Missouri Highway Patrol trooper sustained minor injuries when he jumped out of the way of the speeding vehicle and down into an embankment.
The four injured firefighters were taken to an area hospital. Three had serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and one suffered only minor injuries.
