KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s a huge week for any team with any hopes of winning the Big 12 regular season basketball race, and that statement rings especially true for Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks. Leading the Big 12 standings with a 10-2 record, Kansas plays at Texas Tech on Tuesday night, one of the hottest teams in the league. The Red Raiders have won three of its last four and nearly rallied from 18 down against Iowa State last Saturday.
After tonight the Jayhawks host Texas on Saturday and then Oklahoma for a Big Monday matchup at Allen Fieldhouse. That’s three key games in a seven-day stretch. If the Jayhawks can manage a win in Lubbock, and then a victory over a Texas team to earn a season-split with the Longhorns, their prospects for winning a 10th straight regular season championship look good.
It would look even better if the Jayhawks got some help from Iowa State, the Cyclones host Texas in Ames on Tuesday night. The Jayhawks will be looking to extend their string of wins in Lubbock to four years. It’ll be an interesting week of basketball, and it all starts with Kansas’ game at Texas Tech.
