KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City man said he’s grateful for the people who helped him Sunday after his car caught fire.
Michael Newton was traveling northbound on I-35. He was on the ramp to Southwest Boulevard when he lost control due to the slick conditions. He ran into a highway barrier. After he crashed, the car caught fire. Firefighters arrived and put out the blaze.
“I just stopped, soon as I saw the smoke I got out and called for help, and people stopped to help me,” he said. “I’m just blessed to be alive.”
The fire caused significant damage to the car. Newton was not hurt, but he says he was shaken up.
