KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Day after day for the past several weeks, people have been waking up to damaged cars in the Northland. The weapon of choice, a BB gun and it’s causing thousands of dollars in damage.

Shane Frazer is one of the many victims. He couldn’t believe his eyes when he pulled into his driveway. He and his girlfriend had just finished an 18-hour road trip home from Florida.

“Just a little small hole, then it spidered out and as it went kept spidering and spidering,” Frazer said.

Frazer filed a police report and had the window repaired. He followed up with police Tuesday to see if they had any leads. They didn’t.

Det. Jim Keller with KCPD Shoal Creek Property Crimes said there isn’t much to go on. However he’s hopeful two images from home surveillance cameras will help.

“One is a small four door car, silver or white with dark tinted windows, the other a light colored SUV or crossover also with tinted windows,” Keller said.

Several Northland neighborhoods have been targeted and most of the time people are home and hear the crime happening.

“They’ll come out of their homes to discover the windows have been shot out or broken out and the tail lights fleeing the scene,” Keller said.

Nearly 75 people have filed police reports but Det. Keller said the number is deceiving because many didn’t call police

“I know there’s several,” he said.  “It wouldn’t surprise me if our numbers are really closer to a hundred.”

With so many victims and so few leads, police warn residents not to take matters into their own hands, but to instead try and be good witnesses.
