GRANDVIEW, Mo. — Police have arrested a suspect and are investigating 20-plus shootings as part of the extensive highway shootings investigation. Police say they have positively linked 12 of the shootings, most in the Three Trails Crossing area, formerly known as the Grandview Triangle, which is not far from where police say the suspect lived.
FOX 4’s Eric Burke was in the neighborhood as the suspect was apprehended and witnessed neighbors surprised to see numerous police vehicles.
While they were initially surprised, they were later relieved at the police presence that overtook the neighborhood. Most of the crowd that gathered came from a neighboring apartment complex who saw a couple of police cars drive by that later turned into what seemed like a never-ending line of law enforcement vehicles.
“This is a nice neighborhood. I’m excited that they caught him. I’m so happy that they caught him,” said neighbor Nishaia.
Neighbors say the suspect lives in the basement section of a quad plex in the 6000 block of 136th St. Once they heard the man could be the suspected highway shooter, they were relieved.
“We saw him chasing through the parking lot and then they grabbed him, brought him down,” said a neighbor. “Families and everything else, you wouldn’t want to see your family shot and killed just because you’re going down the highway, that’s just wrong.”
The suspect is expected to be charged sometime Friday morning. As for Thursday night, happy neighbors say they’re resting a little easier with a suspect behind bars, as long as the man is the right suspect.
“I’m hoping they caught the right guy, if that’s him, they need to get him off the streets,” said Frankie Gilmore. “My nephews catch the bus right around here and he could have took a shot at the kids or the bus, I don’t know what’s in his mind.”
