LIBERTY, Mo. — Emergency crews responded to a fire at Landmark Towers at about 3 p.m. on Thursday. The apartment building is located in the 1200 block of W. College Street and provides living services for seniors and disabled people.

FOX 4’s Judy Le reported from the scene that two people were injured and one of them had to be taken to the hospital. Liberty Fire Chief Mike Snyder said that the fire began on the fourth floor and a woman was rescued from the apartment that was on fire.

It was a tense afternoon for the residents, and other residents and people around helped those who had been displaced on the warm afternoon.

“These girls were scared. I’m pretty durable. I’m on the second floor I can jump and make it. But I went and because there was a fire, I went and got water and passed it to everyone,” said Bonnie Tershing.

The cause of the fire has not been released. The Office of the State Fire Marshal will assist with the investigation into what started the fire.
