Most people could identify the wealthiest neighborhoods in their city. But what about the wealthiest person in their state? A new interactive map created by Movoto, a real estate trends blog, identifies the men and women in each state who hold the most change in their pockets (and in their bank vaults).

mapOf those with the most wealth are entrepreneurs, widows, heirs and heiresses. In 2013, 15 percent of Americans were living in poverty. President Barack Obama earlier this week said minimum wage in America hasn’t been raised in five years — something he wants Congress to change. The median household income is around $51,000 for Americans. Others earn much less.

Obviously, the disparity between the really rich and the not-so-rich is vast. Some of the nation’s wealthiest have earned reputations for giving back.

In 2013, Forbes released a list of the most generous billionaires. Topping the list was Bill and Melinda Gates, who gave $1.9 billion and $1.87 billion each in 2012 to charity. Mark Zuckerberg came in at No. 4. Sliding in at No. 7 was Michael Bloomberg, who gave away $370 million in 2012 — about 1.2 percent of his $31 billion net worth.
