OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Residents and staff of Tallgrass Creek retirement community will participate September 1-30 in a “Walk Across America” fitness project in which they will keep track of the time — and distances —  they walk.

They will walk each day in and around their 65-acre campus in Overland Park, Kan. They will be able to count time spent in gardening, exercise classes, golfing, and swimming.

Health tips and factoids will be delivered to residents and staff. A celebration at the conclusion of the fitness project will tabulate results and determine if residents, or if staff, walked the most.

This project coincides with Active Aging Week, an annual health promotion held each year during the last week of September. The weeklong observance, sponsored by the International Council on Active Aging, celebrates adults ages 50 and older as fully participating members of society and promotes the benefits of leading an active, healthy lifestyle.
