HARVEYVILLE, Kan. — Debbie Roberts is facing the chore of rebuilding her house virtually from scratch, but the pain of losing her home to a tornado isn’t a big deal, compared to what nearly happened.
On Tuesday night, an EF-2 tornado – packing winds of up to 135 mph – tore through the small Kansas town about 30 miles southwest of Topeka, flattening many houses and businesses, including Roberts’ home.
But she says that it could have been worse, because she nearly lost her 8-year-old grandson to the storm after the winds nearly sucked him through the windows of the tattered house.
FOX 4’s Abby Eden is Working for You with the report.
