OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — If you’re planning on traveling on I-435 in Kansas this weekend, prepare for detours. K-DOT crews will implode half of the Quivira overpass at I-435 and Quivira on Saturday, March 3.

Beginning Saturday at 8 p.m., I-435 — between I-35 and 69 Hwy — will be closed. After a portion of the Quivira overpass is taken down, crews are expected to reopen I-435 by 2 p.m. Sunday.

East-west alternate routes are College Blvd. to the south and 103rd Street to the north.

According to K-DOT, I-435 and Quivira is one of the most accident-prone intersections in the metro. Crews plan to add lanes to I-435 between I-35 and 69 Hwy. They also plan to widen Quivira from four to six lanes.

Construction is expected to be complete in early July, weather permitting.
