KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If the Royals win, you’re getting a puppy. That’s the kind of bet one made with his girlfriend.
When the Royals lead the Wild Card game three to two in the fifth inning, the crowd roared. Among the loudest was Katie Castan. As she waved her sign, her dreams of owning a puppy inched closer.
“I think it was just really a ploy for my boyfriend to get me to watch most of the games,” said Castan.
Like the Royals, it’s been a long road for Castan whose hopes of a furry baby all depended on the team making the playoffs. But it was a rough start.
“They weren’t playing very well, they were struggling. I was getting a little grouchy and Kate wanted to change the channel,” said her boyfriend Joe Onofrio.
Onofrio made her a bet; just be a good Royals fan “And if you can name ten players I will buy you a puppy.”
And when the Royals clinched the win Tuesday night, Castan also won big. The couple already reached out to KC Pet Project.
“We currently have Danny Duffy who is looking for a home right now. He’s a very mild manner 73 pound black lab,” said Tori Fugate of KC Pet Project.
There are 900 dogs for Castan to choose from. She was hoping for a corgi but says she’s just ready to be a dog owner.
