KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals are full of budding superstars and this postseason is giving them a national stage to shine on, but it also has some up and comers who are stepping up as well.
When you think of Royals rookies, Terrance Gore and his lightning quick speed likely comes up first. But there’s a pitcher in the bullpen who will be part of this team for years to come and he’s already been part of two world series.
“I got to live two dreams in one year and I feel like I’m still in a dream, waiting on myself to wake up and realize this ain’t happening,” said Royals’ pitcher Brandon Finnegan.
But it is happening, Finnegan is in his second world series this year.
As a pitcher for the TCU Horned Frogs, he pitched in the College World Series this summer.
Despite his good fortune, this young player still understands this is not normal.
“These guys have told me this stuff doesn’t come as easy as it’s coming to you, I got blessed,” he said.
The players who have told him that are veterans who are just now realizing their boyhood dreams of playing for a championship. Even at a young age, Finnegan shows his maturity by recognizing that.
“We’ve got guys on this team that have been her 16 years and haven’t played in a post season game, none of this until this year, I think that alone tells me, this ain’t easy,” said Finnegan.
With Finnegan’s quick progression, many royals fans are just starting to learn about him. But there are Finny fans who are way ahead of the game. Like two fans, who brought out the horned frogs flag during the ALCS.
“He’s a bulldog. He’s coming here doing his part and getting in clutch innings,” said one of the fans.
Finnegan appreciates the support and more importantly appreciates that this is a special time and he’s not taking anything for granted, hence the reason he swiped his name plate at media day.
