KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man approached by armed carjacker Wednesday morning only gave the man half of what he wanted, handing over his truck but refusing to give the man his hard-earned money.
Carlos Ramirez says a man with a gun forced Ramirez and a friend out of the truck Wednesday morning near Norledge and Drury.
Ramirez says the man walked up to the driver side of his old blue Chevy, where Ramirez was sitting in the passenger seat and his friend was in the driver’s seat. They were parked in front of Ramirez’ house and the man asked Ramirez’ friend for a cigarette.
“No, no smoking, sorry. You don`t smoke? He used a bad voice and put a gun to his head,” Ramirez recounted. “He said whatever you have in your pocket, give it to me.”
Ramirez refused.
“I work hard. I cut trees, tree-cutting service. It`s hard work. Somebody is lazy and not working, coming looking for me, for us, taking my money,” he said. “I told him I`m not giving you anything. My money, it`s mine.”
Ramirez says the man forced them out of the car and got in. Police say the carjacker then dumped it near E. Truman Rd and Belmont, leaving it in the middle of the road.
Police found it soon after and Ramirez was happy it was still driveable so he can continue to work.
“At this moment, oh I feel happy,” Ramirez said. The police are working good. Good job guys, officers.”
Ramirez said the robber took the driver’s wallet and all the papers that were inside the truck. He left both behind when he dumped the truck, except, as expected the wallet was missing the cash.
“This guy needs to go to work. Or better yet, to jail. Forever,” Ramirez said.
