COLUMBIA, Mo. — There’s a big celebration in Columbia, Mo. Friday night, as Mizzou achieved a come-from-behind win over Arkansas to clinch the SEC East division title.
For the second year in a row, they will play in the SEC championship game in Atlanta.
Friday’s afternoon game was dominated by Arkansas for three quarters.
At the half, the Razorbacks led it 14-6, and had held Mizzou to only 22 yards rushing.
Neither team scored in the 3rd quarter.
In the final quarter, the Mizzou offense came alive with a 98-yard drive ending with Maty Mauk tossing the fade to Jimmy Hunt for a touchdown, which was followed by a two-point conversion, tying the game at 14-14.
Then the Tigers marched 85 yards on 12 plays, with Marcus Murphy covering the final 12 yards, and Mizzou took its first lead with 4:38 left to play.
With the pressure on Arkansas to score, Alex Collins lost the ball and Markus Golden, one of 21 Tigers playing their final home game, came away with it for Mizzou, sealing the game.
Missouri beat Arkansas 21-14, clinching back-to-back division titles.
“Ah man, it was great,” said Marcus Murphy. “We came out. We fought hard. And we going to Atlanta, baby. That’s all we wanted to do. We knew we had to come out and fight to the end. We got the win, baby.”
Murphy praised his team and the fans he loves:
“I’ve been here five years. All these guys are special to me. I love the fans. I love Mizzou!”
