CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — A former William Jewel College football player, convicted last year of soliciting an underage girl for sex using Facebook, is now behind bars.
Blake Brown will spend the next four years in prison for violating the conditions of his probation, according to court documents. Prosecutors told FOX 4 he had an active Facebook account when he was no longer allowed to use the social media website.
“Satisfaction finally,” is how mother Tracey Sawyer described knowing Brown will now be in jail.
Her daughter was just 11 years old when Brown first contacted her. She was among nearly a dozen underage girls across the metro which were listed in a probable cause statement claiming Brown sent them inappropriate messages on Facebook and in some instances solicited sex.
“I was really scared,” Sawyer said, “especially when I had police officers at my front door telling me this is a dangerous man.”
Her daughter’s case, like most of the others listed in the probable cause statement, never resulted in charges.
“It’s just one of those things it’s just unimaginable for me,” Sawyer said.
Instead, prosecutors charged Brown in 2012 with deviate sexual assault involving 14 and 15-year-old sisters from Pleasant Valley.
Brown denied those accusations and he was eventually convicted for lying about his age to solicit sex from a minor via Facebook, which carried a sentence of a lifetime on the sex offender registry and five years’ probation.
“It’s been an ongoing battle trying to get this guy behind bars,” Sawyer explained.
But now that Brown is behind bars, Sawyer said she finally has peace of mind.
“I think he was just an addict and he wasn’t going to stop,” Sawyer said. “And this is the only way you can get him to stop… My daughter is safe tonight.”
One of Brown’s accusers listed in the 2012 probable cause statement showed up in new court documents just a few weeks ago. She was just 15 when she met Brown via Facebook and eventually had sex with him. Now a judge has granted her a stalking protection order against Brown, filed in Clay County on Feb. 6, 2015.
