KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Forget basketball, for all you food lovers out there, there’s a new kind of tournament. It’s called the BBQ Tournament Bracket that will have you wanting more.

Rick Robson says he’s found something so good, there’s no need for change, as far as Smoke Box BBQ goes.

“Wow this is number one,” he said.

Robson was a vegetarian for 15 years until three months ago. He’s had tons of barbecue in the past, but his opinion Smoke Box BBQ takes the gold.

“Word spreads at how fast these guys are, it won’t be as fast anymore,” Robson said.

Smokebox is part of the tournament that pits the best local BBQ joints against each other to narrow down the best of the best. You can also fill out your own bracket on kcfoodguys.com.

“As far as we’re concerned, we should be on the top. But we’re probably on the bottom because no one knows we’re up here except for the people in proximity to the airport,” said Smokebox manager Michael Occhipinto.

This gem is hidden in Tiffany Springs for the past 21 years, but there’s a cult following.

“Nothing sits here long. I can’t keep burnt ends in stock,” said Occhipinto.

That’s just one of the reasons why Robson keeps coming back. For Robson, it’s all about the ribs.
