KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City Board of Public Utilities is still working to restore power to customers Sunday night. As of 8 p.m. Sunday evening 1,030 BPU customers were still without power and 1,978 KCP&L customers.
Monday afternoon, the number had been diminished to 400 BPU customers and 440 KCP&L customers.
“BPU needs to get off their behinds and get out there and get this done,” said customer Mike Morris., who doesn’t have power.
A spokesman with BPU said the company has additional crews on the ground that drove in from Joplin and Springfield, Missouri to assist. According to the company, if a customer’s lines have damage that requires an electrician to come out it could take several days or more to restore the power. A company spokesman said this is because all of the electricians are booked up.
KCP&L staff said they also have 400 extra employees in from out of town to assist in the restoration.
