LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — High school prom is something most girls will remember forever. A metro church was inspired by the high price tag of dresses and accessories which prompted them to give away prom dresses on Saturday.

When Kamilla Scott and her mother walked into the prom boutique at Chapel Woods United Methodist Church they didn’t know what to expect.

“I didn’t know if I could actually find something I would fall in love with or not,” Scott said.

The duo searched through racks of dresses. It became a treasure hunt amidst a treasure of trove of options. Corissa Sherry could have told the teen that. She found her dream dress at the boutique on Friday.

“This one stood out to me,” Sherry said.

She came back to volunteer on Saturday.

“They hem your dress for you,” she said. “If it’s broken they fix it and sew it back. It’s amazing here. I love how they have this place.”

She also got shoes, perfumes and make up.

The hope is that girls who might not get to go to the prom would have the opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime,” said Natalie Lutz.

Dozens of girls combed the racks on Saturday. Kamilla Scott and her mom decided between two gorgeous dresses.  In the end, she decided on an ivory ballerina dress adorned with butterflies.

Scott said she loved the dress because of how it made her feel.

“It’s so unique and pretty an makes me feel like a princess,” she said.

That’s exactly what he volunteers at the prom boutique were wishing for.

“I just want to see all the happy faces on the people who take a dress with them as they go out,” Sherry said.

The prom boutique is open again on Saturday, March 31st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit. The church accepts donations and gives away dresses by appointment all year round.
