KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The No. 11 seed Kansas Jayhawks saw their Cinderella run come to an end after losing to head coach Pat Summitt and the second seeded Tennessee Lady Vols 84-73 on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kansas (21-13, 8-10 Big 12) got off to a hot start and led 26-12 with 9 minutes left in the 1st half. The Lady Vols (27-8, 12-4 SEC) answered with an 18-9 run and trailed 35-30 at the half.
After trailing for most of the 1st half, Tennessee roared back to take a 44-42 lead with 15 minutes remaining. They never trailed again.
The Lady Vols were led by sophomore guard Meighan Simmons with 22 points.
Junior guard Angel Goodrich led the Hawks with 23 points and 6 assists. Freshman forward Chelsea Gardner added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
