OLATHE, Kan. — Metro shoppers searching for baby items hit the jackpot on Sunday. They also helped teen moms at the same time.
The annual Angel Babies Consignment Sale was held in Olathe. Sherri Robertson is raising money for a cause she believes in. She started Angel Babies babies years ago, by helping one teen mom. Today, the organization helps mothers from 23 metro schools. They take the money raised at the sale and buy new toys and clothes as a Christmas gift for struggling teens and their babies.
“Every child gets an outfit, a warm blanket, a sleeper, an educational toy, diapers wipes and all the essentials,” said Robertson.
Erica Brown was a 15-year-old trying to get through high school with a baby to support. She received an Angel Babies Christmas package that she will always remember.
“I was surprised to receive anything and I was very thankful because I didn’t have a way to go buy gifts for my child,” Brown said. “It meant a lot ot have someone who didn’t know me or my child give these gifts.”
Now, she is a nurse. Her son is 10-years-old she is helping angel babies and teen moms who are often stuck in hardship of the moment.
“You have dreams about getting there when you have all these extra hurdles can be difficult,” Brown said. ” Just knowing i went through it and I can do it I know somebody else can but just being there for someone else is very important to me.”
On Sunday, most of the items at the sale were half price. There were toys, clothes, bedding and books which were bargains for metro families and a lifesaver for teen mothers.
