INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A 50-year-old Independence man was charged Wednesday in Jackson County after police say he kidnapped and raped the blind victim several times over a two-week period.
According to the probable cause statement, police found Terry Buchanan asleep in a back room at the victim’s residence. Police had received a call about a rape, reportedly from the victim’s mother.
The victim, who is fully visually impaired, told police that she and the defendant had attended the same high school together. The victim said that Buchanan came to her residence after Buchanan got out of the Jackson County Jail on March 26. On Buchanan’s third visit, the victim says the first rape occurred.
The victim stated that Buchanan was forceful. The victim said when Buchanan finished raping her the second time, he said that he was leaving but allegedly claimed he’d be back. ‘You better let me in or I will burn this b***ch to the ground with your b***ch ass in it,” the victim said he threatened.
A few days later the victim says he returned and forced the victim to perform oral sex. The victim says she bit the defendant and that he then slapped her on the face.
The victim says the defendant raped her several more times in different ways, once forcing her limbs in positions ‘his/her body was physically unable to be put in.’
The victim says that when the defendant fell asleep on the couch, she sent her mom a text and asked her to call the police.
Buchanan is charged with four counts of first degree rape, two counts of sodomy, and one count of kidnapping.
