LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. — A New York high school student is excited about being named prom king! He isn’t the quarterback or class president, but he definitely inspires his
fellow students.
Max Jackoski had no idea he would be named prom king. The 16-year-old has down syndrome. The teen has had a date to the Lake George Junior Prom months ahead of time.
“I got a puzzle and wrote on it, “will you go to prom with me?” said Hannah Saroff, Max’s date. “And then I hid each of the puzzle pieces in Easter eggs, then Max had to go on an Easter egg hunt and put the puzzle together.”
His mom remembers being overwhelmed and overjoyed for her son.
“I think I started to cry immediately,” said Lisa Jackosik. “I jumped up to my feet and cheered and yelled and thought, “oh my god. This is really happening for him.”
Jackoski won the title by a landslide win. The school says 80 percent of the class of 2013 voted for Max.
“Everyone knows him, he’s a great guy, funny,” said Connor McCoy Max’s classmate. “He’s always smiling. That’s the person you want to vote for.”
Max enjoyed being crowned king, but what made the moment shine was the girl by his side.
“Hahnah is my best friend,” Jackoski said. “We love her.”
Clearly, the class of 2013 loves Max as well!
