(CNN) — Hillary Clinton laughed off the perpetual conversation over her appearance that landed her in the spotlight once again Monday. A smiling picture of the Secretary of State, sporting glasses sans make-up during a trip to Bangladesh made the rounds on the Internet — and made her a bulls-eye for critics.
But Clinton told CNN’s Jill Doherty that at her age she’s confident enough to do what she wants, regardless of other people’s opinions.
“I feel so relieved to be at the stage I’m at in my life right now, Jill, because if I want to wear my glasses, I’m wearing my glasses,” Clinton said. “If I want to pull my hair back, I’m pulling my hair back.”

Clinton’s fashion sense has made headlines before. During the 2008 election, her short hair and signature pant suits were criticized. More recently fashionistas have called attention to Clinton’s occasional use of scrunchies, the dated hair ties that appear bunchy and big. According to ABC, Clinton likes to wear them because they keep her hair tied back neatly and out of her face.
Clinton isn’t the only female politician to be under the harsh light of fashion critics. First Lady Michelle Obama, Sarah Palin, Condoleeza Rice and Michelle Bachman have all been there.
Clinton told CNN she’s bored of the whole fashion debate.
“At some point it’s just not something that deserves a whole lot of time and attention,” she said. “If others want to worry about it, I’ll let them do the worrying for a change.”
