KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Police are trying to identify the body of a woman found burning near a business on Monday evening. The body was discovered near Faultless Linen near 19th & Brooklyn.
The Stop the Killing Coalition is canvassing the area hoping that someone with information will be able to help police. The victim is described as a small black woman between 5’2 and 5’6 with dyed, red hair.
Police say so far they haven’t received any tips on any missing women that match the victim’s description. Officers say the condition of the body makes it a little harder, but not impossible for detectives to learn who the victim is.
“It’s not as easy as it is when the victim is readily identifiable and we know who they are right away,” said Capt. Steve Young. “Identifying the victim actually is a great first step. Once we know who that person is, we can find out who they hang out with or who they know. It’s a big first step that needs to be taken.”
Members of the Stop the Killing Coalition say anyone depraved enough to mutilate a body by burning it needs to be rooted out of Kansas City.
“A person will desecrate a body, a person will abuse a human being, a person will walk through a community and do that and nothing triggers that community that there is a problem,” said Sasteh Mosley.
The area where the body was found is largely industrial. Volunteers and police hope that someone in the area noticed something that will lead to the victim’s identity or an arrest.
