Area students made the metro proud for their participation in the National Spelling Bee, which aired Thursday night on ESPN. The winner: Snigdha Nandiapti from San Diego who spelled “guetapens,” which is a snare or a trap.

Kansas City’s semi-finalists performed well but got hung up on some pretty tough words. Watch the video above for a brief look at their performance.
