KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The long and painful wait for justice is over for the family of Angel Hooper who was shot and killed outside of a Kansas City 7-Eleven in October of 2014.

19-year-old Howard Chase IV has been found guilty of second degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action in the death of the 6-year-old girl.

“It has been a long process,” said Hooper’s mother Charity Guinn. “Wounds that I have been focusing on closing have reopened in this last week.”

Chase had nothing to say to FOX 4’s Shannon O’Brien as he walked out of the court room in handcuffs after the verdict was read.

Guinn broke down in tears as the verdict was read. “I miss everything. From her head to her feet, I miss everything,” an emotional Guinn said after court.

Howard Chase IV is charged along with LeAndre Smith with the murder of Angel Hooper, 6.

Angel Hooper was just 6-years-old on October 17, 2014 when she was shot and killed outside the 7-Eleven at 107th and Blue Ridge. She went inside with her dad to buy some bubblegum. As they were leaving the store, a passing car fired multiple rounds toward the store parking lot and Hooper was struck in the head.

Prosecutors say the drive by shooting that rolled through the parking lot was in retaliation for a girl fight in which Chase’s cousin was involved.

Prosecutors charged Chase and another man, Leandre Smith, 21, with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. Chase was also found guilty on these other charges.

“It hurts that I have to sit int he court room and I have to face the person who is responsible for my daughter’s death, I mean, it hurts,” said Guinn. She plans on continuing to help other people in her position get justice for their loved ones. It is how Guinn says she will honor her daughter’s life.

In December, another Defendant, 21-year-old LeAndre Smith pleaded guilty to second degree murder and the other charges for his part in Angel Hooper’s Death. He will spend 23 years in prison.

Howard Chase IV will be sentenced at a future date.

Smith has already pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 23-years in prison.

Chase will be sentenced by a Jackson County judge at an upcoming hearing.
