OTTAWA, Kan.– Ottawa police in Franklin County have noticed an increase in gas thefts from vehicles around the area.

Police are reporting that thieves are taking gasoline from parked vehicles in both the city of Ottawa and rural parts of the county.

So far they have seen about 17 cases since April 11 of this year, with most of the activity taking place where there were multiple vehicles parked, such as parking lots or neighborhood streets.

Police are seeking help from members of the community to help stop these fuels thefts from happening, by reporting any incident.

“Every report of this kind was helpful in tracking when and where this type of theft is occurring and may assist in the capture of the suspects”, according to Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Curry.
