KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals will have two representatives on the American League’s 2012 All-Star staff.
Texas Rangers and A.L. All-Star manager Ron Washington hand-picked Royals manager Ned Yost and athletic trainer Nick Kenney to help represent the A.L. on July 10th in this year’s All-Star game at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
Yost was selected along with Oakland A’s manager Bob Melvin. Kenney joins Cleveland Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff.
Yost is the 10th Royals manager to receive the honor, and the first since Trey Hillman got the nod in 2009. Yost was last-named an All-Star in 2005, representing the National League as manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. This will be Yost’s fifth All-Star game. He made several appearances in the 90’s as part of Bobby Cox’s coaching staff with the Atlanta Braves.
Kenney is the fourth Royals athletic trainer to be named an All-Star, and the first since Nick Swartz was selected in 2006. It will be Kenney’s first All-Star appearance.
