(CNN) — Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from her husband of six years, Tom Cruise, the actor’s attorney Bert Fields said Friday. The two have a young daughter, Suri.
According to the actress’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
Years ago, at the beginning of the couple’s relationship, Tom Cruise surprised audience members and Oprah herself when he jumped on her couch and professed his love for Katie Holmes. See video below.
According to TMZ, the couple has a prenup with a net worth of $275 million, with Cruise earning the bulk of that. Cruise turns 50 on Monday. His 33-year-old future ex-wife has been noticeably absent from recent events honoring Cruise.
