First, a BIG “thank you” to everyone who took time to read, share, like, and comment on my last blog! I’ve been smiling over your kind words of support and advice all week. Thank you so much!

I’m 22 weeks along today and feeling our baby move more and more each day. It’s amazing how close I’ve become with this little one. I’m starting to recognize patterns in Baby Pulley’s actions and even sensing a personality. This is why today’s topic is so meaningful.

Finding a name for my baby is one of the most important decisions that i’ll make in this baby journey. It’s a very important choice that will stick with the kid for life! I definitely don’t want to doom my child to ridicule and preconceptions just because I’m feeling artsy. :)

Since the day I found out that I’m expecting, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it. But I had to wait until I was far enough along to determine my baby’s sex. Well, after weeks of waiting, we were excited to find out that IT’S A BOY! (I had a gut feeling that it was going to be a boy!)

This little baby has already come to mean so much to me, and now it’s time for him to have his own identity. So what do we call him? I’ve lived my whole life with such a simple and common name. Do I give him a biblical name, with a strong meaning indicating his purpose or destiny? What about a family name, to honor a relative who I deeply respect? Maybe I could go all “Hollywood” and give him a crazy name like Electric Cider or something!

When it came down to it, I knew I wanted a name that would just roll off the tongue. And we had a name that fulfilled everything we wanted. In all honesty, this little boys name was chosen long ago, back when I was a teenager. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together since the age of 15 and 16. Way back then, when the thought of marriage and family was a distant idea, we had a conversation about what our child’s name would be. Yes, we got WAY ahead of ourselves! lol We tossed around names, and decided that if we had a daughter, we’d name her Maranda. It’s a mix of our names, Mary and Randall. When it came to a son, we decided on Landen. It has the same letters as my husband’s name (except for the “e”) and sounds similar to his. But most importantly, we both loved the way it sounded.

Now for baby Landen’s middle name, we wanted to honor my husband’s father “James”. Also, it’s a biblical name that means “supplanter” according to some websites.

So there you have it! Landen James Pulley. A first name that sounds good and doesn’t rhyme with anything stinky, and a middle name with meaning that honors my father-in-law. Now, throughout the rest of my pregnancy, I won’t have to refer to him simply as “the baby” or “Baby Pulley”!

Once again, thanks for taking the time to read my blog! I can’t wait to hear all your stories on deciding what to name your children. Please share!
