KANSAS CITY, Mo. – You may not be a professional football player, but you can suffer some of the same injuries. So where do you go to get some of the best care in the metro? The same place the Chiefs do.  The Center for Sports Medicine opens on Monday.

It will be ready any time a Chief player is injured and needs an x-ray or MRI, but it’s also open to anyone with a sports related injury. It’s an expanding partnership between the Chiefs and The University of Kansas Hospital. The equipment is state-of-the-art, but many machines and tables are oversized. That will help accommodate larger players and people.

The Chiefs and the hospital say anyone who comes here will be in excellent hands.

“We’ve got a place for the players to come in and have immediate access. We’ve got a place for the community and if you’re in the community and get hurt, where would you want to do?  You’d want to go to the place that takes care of the professional athletes. So that’s what we think we’ve got that makes this very unique and very attractive,” Bob Page, President and CEO of The University of Kansas Hospital, said.

The Center for Sports Medicine is attached to the Chiefs training facility. According to the team, it will be used by the Chiefs any time there’s an injury. So far the Chiefs have been pretty lucky with very few injuries this season, but this clinic won’t be sitting idle.

“Whether you’re a high school player or a weekend warrior if you have an injury, why wouldn’t you want to come here?” Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said.

The center sees patients by appointment only. Doctors will try to see injured athletes within the first 48 hours after the injury. It also offers everything from doctor diagnosis to rehab and follow-up care.
