OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A large doctors’ group in Johnson County is now part of the largest health care system in the metro.

College Park Family Care, which has 60 doctors and 10 facilities, is joining HCA Midwest and Midwest Physicians. HCA has ten hospitals and many other facilities in the metro.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

College Park will retain its name and facilities. Dr. Tom Kettler of College Park says the sale to HCA was in part related to uncertainties for private practices with the health care law.

“Costs, as everything goes up, and reimbursements.  Those are two things — we can’t control that,” says Dr. Kettler.

HCA gains College Park’s large pool of patients for its Overland Park Regional Medical Center where expansion is underway.

The deal is part of a big trend nationwide.  The days of the private practice are fading away.  A recent report finds that this year, two out of three doctors will be employees of major medical groups or hospital systems.
